About Us

Formerly known as “Nikkei Hockey” from 2000 to 2012, the Japan-Canada International Hockey Program was established by key organizers of past trips to carry on the tradition of using ice hockey as a conduit to introduce young Japanese Canadians to the country of their heritage. The JCIH program promises to deliver the same unique experience enjoyed by players on previous trips plus more.

Japan-Canada Ice Hockey is a volunteer program. We have established two working committees; one located in the City of Burnaby (British Columbia) and the other in the sister City of Kushiro (Hokkaido). The Canadian committee is responsible for program promotion, organizing evaluation camps, team selection, coordinating fundraising and travel arrangements. The Japanese committee is responsible for local travel, arranging accommodations, scheduling hockey games and sightseeing events, and working with the local government/school district/Japan Tourism/and media.

The program relies on fundraising (by the players and families) and sponsors to help cover trip expenses.
